The Other Sound brings together the most captivating voices in experimental music

20. MAY 2026

Flow Festival’s The Other Sound program once again presents Finnish and international artists whose work explores and pushes the boundaries of music. Experienced in the unique setting of Suvilahti’s Kattilahalli, the program brings together a range of voices whose creations and ways of working are defined by contrast.

This year, The Other Sound is again constructed in Suvilahti’s Kattilahalli, a space that provides an exceptional environment for immersive experiences, as the circular stage allows visitors to encounter the magnificent industrial venue in an unprecedented way. The shape of the stage, combined with the large-scale 30-metre video projections onto the walls and pillars – created in collaboration with Flow’s production technology partner Creative Technology – transforms Kattilahalli into a stunning work of spatial art.

On Friday, 14 August, The Other Sound is taken up by More Ohr Less Trio, formed by experimental music pioneers Hans-Joachim Roedelius, Carl Michael von Hausswolff and Christopher James Chaplin. Together, the trio offers a sophisticated exploration of avant-garde sound. In addition, Flow presents Matti Ahopelto’s alias AHO performing together with Ringa Manner and Tapio Viitasaari, as well as fourest, a duo exploring the dynamic between classical instrumentation and electronic sound design. Artist and composer Lauri Wuolio’s new alter ego Atonauer, and the duo Hallintohimmeli, exploring the outer edges of communication between guitar and drums, also take to the stage.

On Saturday, 15 August, the stage is occupied by composer and electronic musician Fernando Corona alias Murcof, a master of modern ambient music constructing vast edifices of sound, and percussionist, sound manipulator and visual artist NAH, synthesising textured noise and genre-smashing percussive rhythms. Additionally, Aki Rissanen, one of the most internationally recognised Finnish jazz pianists of his generation, performs solo with the Omniwerk, a combination of two historical keyboard inventions. Also on stage is Ensemble Gamut!, the group of vocalist and composer Aino Peltomaa, whose work moves between early music, contemporary composition, and interdisciplinary performance. Their show at Flow, FLOS, brings together music, live drawing, and real-time electronics. Furthermore, percussionist Minna Koskenlahti, working at the intersection of experimental music, sound arts, and performing arts, will perform at The Other Sound.

On Sunday, 16 August, the Flow audience gets to witness Voice Actor, the enigmatic music project of Noa Kurzweil, for the first time in Finland. Further, the duo Akkajee and the Oma Ensemble Choir perform Pölynkerääjä, a work that meditates on the passage, relativity, and cycles of time. Additionally, performing is the trio Kiri Ra!, formed by Lau Nau (Laura Naukkarinen), Linda Fredriksson and Swedish artist Matti Bye, whose work naturally forms through shared improvisation. Niillas Holmberg & Pauli Lyytinen bring a joint performance that combines Sámi poetry, joik, and spoken word with saxophone and electronics to The Other Sound.

Performing on The Other Sound stage: AHO, Aki Rissanen: Omniwerk, Akkajee feat. Oma Ensemble, Atonauer, Ensemble Gamut!, fourest, Hallintohimmeli, Kiri Ra!, Minna Koskenlahti, More Ohr Less Trio (Roedelius, Von Hausswolff & Chaplin), Murcof, NAH, Niillas Holmberg & Pauli Lyytinen, Voice Actor.
