J. Karjalainen

J. Karjalainen is one of the most iconic and loved Finnish pop-rock artists. With a career of more than 40 years, he has a unique position in Finnish music as a singer-songwriter and an artist on his own terms. His music is known for catchy melodies, storytelling lyrics, and influences from the history of American music mixed with the Finnish musical heritage. During his career, Karjalainen has turned his attention to blues, soul, and the traditional songs of Finnish immigrants in America in the early 20th century, but his style, voice, and songs are instantly recognisable.

His latest album, Suomalaista muotoiluu, was released in March 2025, followed by a tour in concert halls around Finland. Several hits from his career, such as Kolme cowboyta, Ankkurinappi, Doris, Hän, Telepatiaa, Villejä lupiineja, Mennyt mies, and Stindebinde, are considered classics in Finnish music, and his latest albums remain a testament to his creative force. For him, music is primarily a question of feelings, and he has been able to convey them to his listeners decade after decade.
