DJ Babatr

DJ Babatr is the creator of raptor house, an electronic music genre born in Venezuela in the late 1990s. A soundtrack for the daytime raves in the streets of Caracas, raptor house is a blend of trance, ghetto house, and Afro-Latin rhythms, with percussion rooted in Venezuelan musical heritage. DJ Babatr was the key organiser and DJ in raptor house parties, playing his own productions.

When the culture faced problems in the early 2000s, DJ Babatr quit his career and began working as an automotive painter, but his music circulated online, and after nearly two decades, his unique sound, way ahead of its time, was widely rediscovered. In the 2020s, DJ Babatr has played regularly at European clubs such as Berghain and Tresor, and at festivals like Primavera Sound. His vintage productions have been re-released, and his producer career has also continued successfully with tracks like Xtasis, released with Nick Leon and named as Track of the Year 2022 by Resident Advisor.
