Kadir AMIGO MemisKadir AMIGO Memis

Born 1974 in Anatolia, Turkey, Kadir “Amigo” Memiş moved to Berlin at the age of ten and currently lives and works there. Memiş began his artistic journey in the vibrant Hip-Hop and Breakdance scene of the late 1980s. In 1993, he co-founded the internationally renowned crew Flying Steps, with whom he won the World Championship title four times. For over three decades, his work as a choreographer has bridged urban movement culture with traditional forms, establishing him as a pioneer of the German Hip-Hop scene.

Parallel to his dance career, Memiş has developed an independent drawing practice. Inspired by the precision of his trained profession as a technical draftsman and the gestural energy of Street Art, he has created calligraphic works on paper for over 30 years. His pieces oscillate between impulse and reflection – characterized by bold black lines, vibrant color accents, and fragmented figures. In his oeuvre, the boundaries between performance and visual art dissolve, creating a unique dialogue between motion and static form.

The exhibition will be on display at the Make Your Mark Gallery and feature the artist’s original works and screen prints. On Saturday, Make Your Mark Gallery will host an artist talk with Memiş, where he will discuss his practice, and visitors will have the opportunity to ask the artist questions. The exhibition will continue after the festival and remain on view until 30 August.
