On vinyl, the album version is accompanied by a remix by Flying Lotus. The video is shot in New York, the artist’s hometown, and it is directed by Josh Rothstein.

Hot on the heels of his acclaimed long player “Jim”, the 21st Century soul renaissance man Jamie Lidell is surely keeping busy. Cut Copy to play Flow08, festival schedule released

Flow08 program is now complete. The last addition to the Sunday program at the Main Stage is Australia’s Cut Copy, one of the most in-demand indie outfits at the moment. The festival timetable has also been released.

Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Cut Copy is the brainchild songwriter, producer, and DJ Dan Whitford. Initially a one-man project which began in 2001, Cut Copy soon evolved into a trio featuring bassist and guitarist Tim Hoey and drummer Mitchell Scott. Their debut album “Bright Like Neon Love”, was released in 2004. In 2008, Cut Copy return with their acclaimed new LP “In Ghost Colours”. Remarkable in its rare brand of timelessness, the album inhabits the kind of space in time where trends are irrelevant and music is about feeling rather than following.

Cut Copy will perform at Flow08 on Sunday 17.8. at the Main Stage.

The Flow Festival schedule is also ready for release. Flow08 artists perform on four stages during the festival weekend. The most significant changes from last year are the growth of the Tent Stage, the new location of the Main Stage, and the all new venue, Club Tiivistämö.

New additions to the Flow line up

Flow announces new additions to the festival line up. New international additions are Norway’s indie-pop greats Kings of Convenience, Icelandic Borko, and Eagle Boston from Berlin. Fresh Finnish acts in the artist roster are Plutonium 74, Hidria Spacefolk, Astro Can Caravan, and TV OFF. One of the headliners for Sunday is to be announced on July 10.

Hailing from Bergen, Norway, Kings of Convenience has operated at the forefront of the new acoustic indie movement since their showstopping debut in 2001 with the album Quiet Is the New Loud. Now the duo formed by Erlend Øye and Eirik Glambek Bøe is gearing up for the release of their third album by showcasing their new material at Flow08.

Icelandic Borko is the alias of Björn Kristiansson, one of the most versatile artists of his country. Hot on the heels of his debut LP, Borko will grace the festival with his electronic brand of contemporary folk. Berlin’s Eagle Boston is a new project incorporating electronic influences and fuzzy no-nonsense new wave sounds into their psychedelic undertone. The band is led by Finnish-Berliner Jonas Verwijnen aka LBJ.

The new domestic additions in the Flow08 line up each represent the cream of the crop of the country’s new wave of innovative and far-reaching sounds. Plutonium 74, celebrating the release of their second album, successfully blends various shades of reggae and ska with their vast array of influences. A similar kind of uncompromisingly broad-minded approach is displayed by Hidria Spacefolk, who rely on cosmic aesthetics as the backbone of their art. The jazz collective Astro Can Caravan is another prime example of the well-functioning fusion of space age influences and deep eclectism. The hotly-tipped newcomer TV OFF flirts with the fundamentals of pop and electro without completely committing themselves to either one.

One of the international acts performing at the Main Stage on Sunday will be announced on July 10.

Flow08 line up is now released

The fifth edition finds the festival adding volume to its line up and the festival site

Flow Festival brings together a wide array of internationally acclaimed artists. In addition, the event now presents an area three times larger as that of previous year’s. The number of stages also grows from three to four.

During its four years of existence Flow Festival, organised by the Nuspirit Helsinki collective, has succesfully showcased top-notch music from jazz to soul, indie to electro, techno to boogie and electronic to organic. This year, the festival is proud to present artists such as Philadeplhia’s The Roots, who have just released their tenth album to date, and Martha Reeves & The Vandellas from Detroit, which is considered as one of the most respected soul acts on the impressive Motown roster. Other acquisitions boasting big headlines worldwide include Brazil’s indie greats CSS (Cansei de Ser Sexy), British postmodern soul reneissance man Jamie Lidell, Icelandic electronic folk-pop success story Múm, and Norwegian singer-songwriter Ane Brun.

The line up also includes France’s secret weapon at the upcoming Eurovision song contest, Sébastien Tellier, Canada’s Crystal Castles, viewed as the most interesting new act in the world today by forward-looking music media, José James, the New York based saviour of contemporary vocal jazz, and German-Chilean producer extraordinaire turned bandleader Senor Coconut. The Friday night at club Voimala includes a Berlin Techno special with an impressive cast of artists: M.A.N.D.Y., Âme, and Kiki are all well-respected figures in the innovative electronic music scene of Berlin with critically acclaimed productions for labels such as Sonar Kollektiv and Get Physical under their belts. Berlin is at Flow on Sunday as well. The new trio of scene legend Moritz von Oswald will present their hypnotic live show featuring Finnish Berliner Sasu Ripatti aka Vladislav Delay on metal percussion. Saturday’s club night features prominent New York City guests in the influential soundsystem Massive B and DJ Eli Escobar. The latter was recently voted as “Best International DJ” in Helsinki scene tastemaker Lifesaver’s annual poll.

In addition to bringing noteworthy international acts to Helsinki, Flow Festival showcases the brightest and most interesting talent in the vivid Finnish urban music scene. This year, The Five Corners Quintet, one of the leading lights in the European club jazz scene will premiere their new material at the festival. Three significant artists celebrate their long careers: Jori Hulkkonen (20 years), Velcro Fasteners (15 years) and Imatran Voima (10 years) each respectively perform unique sets to fit the special occasion. Finnish leftfield rock greats 22-Pistepirkko and Kuusumun Profeetta are both hot names in the tour calendar this summer due to their eagerly awaited new albums. Asa, Raappana, Astrid Swan and Reino & The Rhinos each display the high quality of new music from Finland.

Flow08 August 15-17 at Helsinki’s Suvilahti

The fifth annual Flow Festival takes place at Helsinki’s Suvilahti on August 15-17. This year’s edition of Flow finds the festival site improved in terms of both quantity and quality, when compared to last year. The festival programme will be announced on May 6.

Flow Festival, established in 2004 by the Nuspirit Helsinki collective, adapted a new home at Helsinki’s Suvilahti power plant site in 2007. This year, the festival continues its residency in Suvilahti with significant extension to the actual festival site, in order to better match the needs of the festival goers and producers alike.
