Suede is surely one of the greats of the 90s Brit-pop revolution. Its cultural significance for British pop is huge. Suede’s elegant way of combining romance, drama and glam rock in their music was something completely different from the laddish behaviour that wound up defining the scene by the mid-’90s. Songs like Animal Nitrate, Trash and Beautiful Ones are among the great classics of the 90s. Led by its charismatic frontman Brett Anderson, the band released its ninth album, Autofiction, in September 2022, and the album reached number two on the UK album chart, as if reminding of the band’s early years of success.
