SMC

SMC Lähiörotat, or simply SMC, is a Helsinki-based rap group making waves since 2009 with their recognizable and unapologetic production. The group includes seasoned Finnish rap artists Avionin Prinssi, Thono Slowknow, Eräkoira, Juno, JUGIX2, and DJ J-Laini. Their journey began with the SMC Hoodrats video made for the Skatemaniacs film, the most-viewed Finnish rap video ever.

SMC’s debut album, Raffii Suomi-flätti (2011), a true cult classic, crossed the gold threshold and includes tracks that have become iconic, such as Lähiörotat skujaa and Yks Risti Kaks. The group has consistently released new songs, including the gold-streamed Täältä mä tuun and well-received tracks Haavoihin suolaa, Iron Maiden, and Niin Siin Vaan Kävi (feat. JVG). Their latest release in January 2024 was the single Ysikuudest ikuisuuteen.

SMC, enjoying immense cult status, has actively toured clubs and festivals, appealing to its steadfast fans as well as a younger generation. Known for its authentic Helsinki vibe, slang, and unyielding attitude rooted in skate culture, the group has remained true to its origins.

However, all good things must end: last winter, the seasoned SMC embarked on their final “Viimeinen Vihellys” club tour, which included over ten shows at legendary venues across Finland, culminating with four sold-out nights at Tavastia in January 2024. At Flow Festival, SMC will play their final festival show, undoubtedly leaving a significant mark on Finnish music history.
