Alvvays

Founded in 2011, the Canadian band Alvvays has risen to the top of the indie scene with their guitar-driven sound. They made an impression with their 2014 debut album Alvvays, which reached the top of the US college charts. Subsequent albums Antisocialites (2017) and Blue Rev (2022) further solidified their status, earning Alvvays a Juno Award and a Grammy nomination for their song Belinda Says.

Alvvays’ music is a fresh breath in contemporary indie: their style draws from jangle pop and ’90s indie rock. The band’s musical palette is rich and nuanced, drawing inspiration from major indie pop names as well as smaller cult artists. Lead singer Molly Rankin has cited influences from The Magnetic Fields, Teenage Fanclub, The Smiths, Oasis, and the Australian cult band The Hummingbirds. Rankin’s own background in Celtic music adds a unique final touch to the band’s sound.
