MARVA WHITNEY IS THE NEW SATURDAY SOUL STAR OF FLOW05
Gwen McCrae has unfortunately become seriously ill and will not be able to fly over the Atlantic for the Flow-festival.
The Flow posse is very sorry and hopes for a quick recovery. The replacement however is none other than the legendary 1960s
James Brown Revue singer and one of the toughest soul voices on earth ms. Marva Whitney.
FLOW05 - NUSPIRIT HELSINKI FESTIVAL
19-20 AUGUST 2005
After a hugely successful inaugural festival, the Nuspirit Helsinki collective is proud to present their second annual summer weekend of music – rooted in soul, jazz and even folk – that continues to grow and thrive in the club sounds of the 21st century.
The sound of Flow is an eclectic selection of some of today’s most intriguing urban music, from acoustic jazz to the deep techno of Detroit and Berlin. This year’s repertoire extends from the classiest soul tunes to fresh electronic music and brings in several artists who have never been heard in Finland before. The Flow05 DJ lineup has a special focus on the sound of New York City. We are very proud to bring some of the United States’ best known DJs, such as Kenny ‘Dope’ Gonzalez and DJ Spinna, to Finland for the very first time.
The two-day event takes place in the very heart of Helsinki at the Makasiinit warehouses. Flow05 will most likely be the last to take place at Makasiinit, as the building is due to be demolished. We are already searching for the right site for Flow06 and hope to find the right spot in time.
This year also marks a few fundamental changes from last year: we will take over the entire Makasiinit area, kicking off both Friday and Saturday night with an excellent piece of urban performing art in the inner yard. We will also be offering festival visitors a chance to enjoy a variety of delicious Asian food throughout the festival.
The Flow05 festival is accomplished in cooperation with the Helsinki Festival.
We hope you dig it!
