AdaAik&Choir:5HoursofLight–ScentedConcert
Ada Aik is the alter ego of musician Karin Mäkiranta, an indie musician, sound designer, and film composer, whose band Karina gained recognition by being nominated for the Nordic Music Prize and touring Europe with the American band Beirut and others. Ada Aik is a conceptual character that serves as a way to merge different art forms, with live performances drawing heavily from performing arts traditions—resembling performance art more than a traditional concert. Ada Aik’s debut album The Mysterious Life of Ada Aik is based on a dollhouse that reflects the narrator’s inner landscapes in physical form.
5 Hours of Light is a multidimensional experience that emphasizes the role of music in evoking emotions and, through them, memories. Collaborating with the girl choir of Sibelius-lukio – led by Reijo Aittokumpu – and the scent artist Salla Keskinen, 5 Hours of Light creates an immersive performance that transcends sensory and artistic boundaries. Additionally, the exceptional piece can be attended every day during the festival, as it works as a recurring opening act for this year’s The Other Sound program.
