Flow Festival, August 17-19, 2007, Helsinki, Finland

Press Release July 10, 2007

Nuspirit Helsinki is proud to present the fourth annual Flow Festival of Helsinki, Finland. This year’s programme includes current top acts from indie rock and folk to electronic music, bossa nova and jazz. Flow Festival is organised in August 17-19 as part of the Helsinki festival.

The Brazilian, million-selling singer Bebel Gilberto will be performing in Finland for the first time as well as popular indie bands !!! (“Chk Chk Chk”) (USA), and Architecture in Helsinki (AU). Also making their Finnish debut will be New York cult band ESG, who have been highly influential in the modern disco, hip-hop and dance-rock genres, celebrated sister duo CocoRosie (US), and Chicago soul legend Terry Callier. Other great acts on the bill are the lovely Swedish singer Jenny Wilson, Canadian tech-fusion wizard Mathew Jonson and Sébastien Tellier (FR). True to the Festival’s roots, the programme also includes the current cream of the Finnish jazz and soul crop, Ricky-Tick Records’ very own The Five Corners Quintet, Timo Lassy, Jukka Eskola and The Stance Brothers as well as Nicole Willis & The Soul Investigators, and Tuomo performing. Also, Finnish indie-pop, electronica and folk are well represented with performances from the likes of Luomo, Op:l Bastards on their exclusive comeback show, Pepe Deluxé, Jori Hulkkonen, Korpi Ensemble, The Valkyrians, Rättö & Lehtisalo, Katusea Sounsystem, Pooma and Fonal Records’ Risto, Shogun Kunitoki and Eleanoora Rosenholm.

Flow wouldn’t be its true self without showcasing the world’s leading DJs, represented this year by Detroit techno pioneer Carl Craig, American turntablist Cut Chemist, jazzy, soulful British trendsetter Gilles Peterson, rising German electrohouse superstar Tiefschwarz and the Philadelphian hip-hop DJ Cosmo Baker.

This year’s festival will also launch a new, unique venue in the former powerplant-area of Suvilahti in Helsinki. The building was constructed in 1909 to host the first powerplant in Helsinki, and served that use until 1974. The main stage will be built in the impressive yard area, and the former power plant itself will serve as the location for the club events of the night.
