Gilles Peterson (UK)

gilles.jpg

Gilles Peterson is one the world’s leading DJ’s in many senses. An influence to a generation of DJ’s from Rainer Trüby to Nicola Conte, he is a true trendsetter.

He’s one of the originators of the acid jazz scene that flourished in the UK in the 1980’s and 1990’s, and also the founder of the legendary Acid Jazz and Talkin’ Loud record labels, once home for artists like 4Hero, The Roots, Incognito, Roni Size & Reprazent, Nu Yorican Soul and Courtney Pine, to name but a few.

Gilles Peterson is also known for having unearthed quite a few forgotten gems of jazz, funk, soul and latin music through incorporating them in his DJ sets, both in clubs and on his Worldwide radio show for BBC, which is broadcast in 15 countries.

Mr. Peterson is responsible over 50 compilations and mix CD’s, including the marvellous “Impressed” compilations that delve deep into obscure 1960’s and 1970’s UK jazz. His knack for finding the best contemporary music from hiphop to broken beats is without comparison and has made him a requested headliner all around the globe.
