Popular Brazilian singer Bebel Gilberto is not only the daughter of famous João Gilberto, often credited as the inventor of bossa nova, but also a great artist in her own right.
Born Isabel Gilberto in New York in 1966, Bebel made an appearance on her mother’s first solo album at the age of seven. At age nine, she performed with her mother and legendary jazz saxophonist Stan Getz in Carnegie Hall. She released her first solo recording in 1986. Her proper solo debut album Tanto Tempo (2000) was an instant success, selling over million copies worldwide. Her latest album Momento, released in March, is a unique fusion of bossa nova and electronic sounds.
Bebel Gilberto has also worked with a wide range of artists from Brazilian star Caetano Veloso to experimental musicians Amon Tobin and Mike Patton.
