Timo Lassy Band (FIN)
The Helsinki-based saxophonist and flautist Timo Lassy has appeared on record with the mighty Five Corners Quintet, Jimi Tenor and U-Street All-Stars. He has played around the world from New York to Istanbul.
It was Lassy’s swinging solo single African Rumble (2006) that revealed the full potential of this upcoming jazz player. His playing, while reminiscent of the bluesy stylings of Gene Ammons and the wandering spirituality of John Coltrane, has a distinctly personal style and warm tone. “Timo Lassy has a storytelling approach to his solos”, wrote a critic of The Guardian after having heard him play. And he was right.
Timo Lassy Band features the talent of Georgios Kontrafouris, piano, Marko Lohikari, bass, Jussi Lehtonen, drums and Mongo Aaltonen on percussion.
