Pepe Deluxé (FIN)

Compared to bands like Groove Armada and The Avalanches, Pepe Deluxé has developed their sound from sample-based downtempo to a wild mélange of breakbeat, surf guitars, latin rhythms and psychedelic pop, all played with real instruments by an array of guest musicians.

Pepe Deluxé was created by two DJ friends, DJ Slow aka Vellu Maurola and JA-Jazz aka Tomi Paajanen in the mid 90s in Helsinki, Finland. In 1995, James Spectrum aka Jari Salo, joined the band and they started to experiment with sounds of hip hop, big beat, breakbeat and downtempo. DJ Slow departed the band in 2001 to pursue his solo projects. Pepe Deluxé has released three albums on British label Catskills records. Their latest full-length album, Spare Time Machine, was released in June.
