Pooma
Pooma was formed in 2000, and the band has remained one of the best kept secrets in the Helsinki scene ever since. In secrecy, the group has been working on their debut album, blending lucid shoegazing-pop with electronica and majestic string walls. The album, which has been co-produced and mixed by Gunnar Örn Tynes of the icelandic band Múm, will be released in September.
The group’s music has references to the likes of Sigur Rós, Radiohead and Mew, but there can be no mistake: Pooma sounds like Pooma alone, and not least because of the distinct voice of the singer Tuire Lukka. Scandinavian melancholy will never sound the same again.
