Mathew Jonson (CAN)

Canada’s Mathew Jonson is a rising star in today’s electronic music. Best known for epic minimal techno, he forges influences from techno, jazz, house and drum’n’bass into his trademark tech-fusion sound. Jonson’s releases on such labels as Minus, Kompakt and his own Wagon repair have been played heavily by DJs from Gilles Peterson to Richie Hawtin and Sven Väth to Laurent Garnier.
Jonson uses a multitude of outboard equipment, old analogues, that give him the distinct hands on usage that his live performances have become famous for. What has often set Mathew apart from other performers is his ability to improvise and perform with other players in a live group setting. This has resulted in musical formations such as the Cobblestone Jazz, who perform in this year’s Montreux jazz festival.
